Since the beginning of September 2014 – as a result of the BALTIC BIRD project – getting from Ivalo Airport to Ivalo and Inari and back is now possible by bus connections.

Karlstad Airport has become the first airport in Europe to install a fixed storage tank facility for aviation biofuel. From the start of 2015 all aircraft departing from Karlstad Airport can be filled with the eco-friendly fuel.

The BALTIC BIRD final project brochure is published. The brochure contains information about the background of the project and its activities. It highlights methods and results and provides examples of the project partners and how the accessibility of the Baltic Sea Region could have been improved.

As a result of the pre-investment study undertaken in BALTIC BIRD work package 4 ("Intermodal Connectivity"), a new public transport connection information screen was installed in the arrivals hall at Joensuu Airport in May 2014. Information is displayed in both Finnish and English and includes data about public transport connections to/from the airport. Some promotional information about the region of North Karelia is also included.

Since July 2014 – as a result of the BALTIC BIRD project – the bus connection between Joensuu main bus and train station, other stops and Joensuu Airport is now available every day, even in weekends.

On 5th September 2014, the BALTIC BIRD final conference will take place in Potsdam, Germany. The agenda covers a press conference, the presentation of final results in several work packages and a discussion panel.

BALTIC BIRD project partner "The Baltic Institute of Finland" (Tampere Region) was participating in the "Routes Europe" event in April 2014 in Marseille. Project member and expert Mikko Salo gives a short summary.

The British regional airline British Midland Regional Limited (trading as bmi regional) announced a new route from Kalmar Öland Airport (Sweden) to Berlin (Germany).

This commitment with BALTIC BIRD project partner Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH is very important for business and tourist industry in Kalmar City.

On 12th June 2014, a stakeholder workshop on the role of regional airports in the European transport network and their importance for competitive regions will take place in Brussels.

The swedish region Värmland will get a route directly to Frankfurt, one of Europe's largest airline hubs. The route makes it easy to travel from Karlstad to 78 countries and 235 destinations worldwide.

Finavia invests €13.5 million in the promotion of tourism in Lapland through the renovation and expansion of Ivalo Airport, the northernmost airport in European Union.

The BALTIC BIRD workshop in Karlstad will take place on 25th and 26th March 2014.

The agenda covers final results of the Airport Marketing Toolbox and Pilot Case (WP 5.1) and an expert speech on local private/public air transport initiatives (WP 3).

Routes Europe 2014 will be held on 06.-08. April 2014 in Marseille (France), and the BALTIC BIRD roll-up will be proudly raised at Tampere Region’s stand!

The final reports connected with work package 5.2, which was exploring the interface between air route development/ air route sustenance and tourism promotion, have now been uploaded.

Finnair and the biggest tour operators in Lapland have agreed a three-year cooperation arrangement for flights to Lapland as well as cooperation in marketing. Finnair will significantly add to its Lapland flight schedule in November 2014 with the start of the winter traffic timetable season.

City of Savonlinna and Savonlinna Business Services were invited at the Parliament of Finland. Main issue of the parliamentary hearing was the discussion of subsidy for air traffic to small airports on the basis of a budget proposal of 1 million euros.

Northpoint Aviation Services working with the critical practical support of the Inari based Nordica team enjoyed arranging and attending the project's second Tourism Best Practice Visit to the Inari-Saariselka-Ivalo area of Northern Finland.

The Swedish airline Scandicjet will have trial flights from Jyväskylä to Croatia Zadar. The flights will be charter flights and targeted to holiday travellers.

City of Savonlinna and Savonlinna Business Services (BALTIC BIRD project partner) received an invitation to parliamentary hearing concerning domestic air services in Finland and their development need. The hearing is to be held on 05. November 2013 at the Parliament of Finland.

Northpoint Aviation Services Ltd. and supporting consultants at the University of Sydney and TEAM Tourism have published draft outputs for work packages 5.2 (Tourism) and 5.3 (1.0/ 1.1/ 1.2 and 1.3) PSO/RDF.

Between 15 and 17 October 2013, multiple events of the EU-project BALTIC BIRD were taken place in Tallinn.

BALTIC BIRD project associate partner Flybe won the call for tender for the Savonlinna-Varkaus triangle route from Helsinki in Finland. Ministry of Transport and Communications released the data.

Between December 10th and 12th December 2013, the north finnish tourism best practice visit will take place.

BALTIC BIRD Airport Information Day will take place in Tallinn on the 15th of October 2013.

The public event will start at 10:30 and end at 17:15. Results of the project will be presented.

From 29th to 30th of May 2013 the BALTIC BIRD workshop of work package 4 and work package 5.3 will take place in Koli (Finland). Focus are the intermediate results and strategic options for airport interconnectivity.

Work packages 3 and 5.1 are focus of the BALTIC BIRD workshop taking place from 23rd to 24th April 2013 in Norrköping (Sweden) in order to concentrate on Passenger Market Potential Analysis and Airport Marketing.

From 20th to 21th of February 2013 the 3rd General Assembly will take place in Poznan (Poland). The current status/ work process of BALTIC BIRD as well as next steps will be discussed. A workshop in context of work package 4 "Intermodal connectivity" (WP 4) is primarily concerned with objectives of WP 4, the scope of work, outputs and next steps.

The first meeting for project members involved in work packages 4 and 5.3 will take place in Seinäjoki (Finland) from 12th to 13th of December 2012. Key aspects are Intermodal Connectivity and Public Service Obligations (PSO) and Route Development Fund (RDF).
