Better accessibility by new flight connections can only be achieved if the relevant players are involved to include complementary interests, resources and knowledge. The relevant players are regional authorities representing interests of their local airports, tourism authorities, public transport services, regional business development companies, non-profit organizations, universities, airports, and airlines.

This constellation – setting strong geographical focus on peripheral North-East Baltic Sea Region (BSR) – has been established in the BALTIC BIRD project to realise the project’s aims. The reason for the rather high concentration of Finnish partners is their strong need to better link peripheral Finnish regions to other BSR, and to the rest of Europe. Project constellation guarantees that the rather long-term (e.g. regional authorities) and the short-term socio-economic approaches (e.g. airlines) will be brought together to finally generate sustainable improvements in accessibility.
